Develop mental energy, which includes mental effort and endurance.
Mental Energy
We all understand how physical energy and effort will impact our athletic performance. It also takes energy and effort to think and to learn.
Energy is the strength or vitality needed to complete a task.
Effort is how much exertion or energy you put into a task.
If you have low energy then of course it will be more difficult to put a lot of effort into the task. When you have low mental energy you simply lack the stamina needed to maintain your best level of activity rather physical or mental.
It may be difficult to start up or to keep going. You may run low on energy/effort. Then we say you have low endurance.
It may be difficult to concentrate and focus and you may miss important information or directions.
Where does energy come from? Our bodies need to recharge daily after using energy.
One way to recharge is by getting the right amount of sleep. If we do not have the right amount of sleep our body has to work too hard to stay alert. It takes a lot of energy to stay alert when we are tired.
Another way to recharge is by giving your body fuel. We get our fuel from the foods we eat. A car cannot go without gasoline and it won’t run on Pepsi. The same is true for our bodies. We have to feed our bodies with the proper foods to make good fuel.
Another way to recharge is by getting the right amount of exercise to keep our bodies strong and healthy. There are even exercises for our brain! It is called Brain Gym.
How can I build endurance?
First, it will be important to get the right amount of sleep, exercise and fuel for your body. To build your endurance you have to do a little bit at a time and increase it a little bit each day. You’ll get stronger in no time.
Let’s say you get really tired reading. Start by reading 5 minutes for a week. The next week set a goal to read for 7 minutes. The next week for 9 minutes. Before you know it you will have built the endurance to read for 30 minutes.
Practice helps build endurance also. The more you practice the better you will become at what you are trying to learn. The better you become, guess what? The less energy or effort it takes to do it.
