When to Preview
- Before starting a writing assignment. Ask questions like "What if..."
- Look ahead into what might be "if" you pick a certain topic
- Before reading something. Look it over and think about what you might be reading about
- Look at the pictures
- Look at the headings or main ideas
- Ask yourself a few questions about what you might be reading about
- Before doing a math problem. Look over the problem and estimate the answer
- Look for key words that will give you clues how to solve the problem
- Before you pick what movie or video game to get
- Before you pick what activities to play with your friends
- Before you purchase something

1. Lunch line - what you are eating and what you will need? You have to tap in on some prior knowledge to get an idea. For example if you are eating an orange…. Think sticky, think napkin.
2. Homework - think ahead, what books will I need to put in my backpack?
3. Recess - who will you play with and what will you play?
4. Test - what kinds of questions might be on the test?
5. Materials - what will you need when changing classes or going home?
6. Assignment…. How will it look when done?
7. Procedures- what do I need to do next?
