Here are some roadblocks
Procrastination
Putting something off until later, only later never comes until it is too late to do the task. Then you find yourself rushing and not doing your best quality of work. Sometimes people who procrastinate are perfectionist.
Distractions
Anything can be a distraction and take you off your focus and task at hand. Often video games, computer time, TV, movies top the list but there are many more. Wanting to spend time with friends, playing outside or even taking mindtrips (like day dreaming) can interrupt your concentration.
Being Passive
Being a passive learner is a hard habit to break. You are always waiting for someone else to rescue you or do your work for you. Sometimes passive people don’t believe they can do it themselves. They act helpless (can’t find a pencil to start their work, and the pencil is right next to them!) in order to get someone else to do the work.
Getting Overwhelmed
It is very difficult to be productive when you are feeling overwhelmed. When you feel there is too much to do you might become anxious. The best way to overcome feeling overwhelmed is to preview, prioritize, pace and be punctual. In other words, develop the skills you need to succeed. It is amazing how quickly your feelings of being overwhelmed will disappear when you check off your To Do list.
Being Forgetful
Being forgetful is one of the biggest roadblocks. Keeping track of everything that needs to be done and knowing when it is due is not an easy task. People who are forgetful think they can keep all this information in their heads yet time and again they fail to remember what needs to be done. The best way to overcome this roadblock is to write it down. Make a "To Do List", use your calendar, have check list to guide you. But, then don’t forget to look at them and use them!
Blaming
People often like to blame others for not being successful. It is easy to say someone else has caused your problem because then you do not have to make the necessary changes to succeed. People who blame others rarely are successful because they never accept the responsibility for themselves.
Excuses
Making excuses is similar to blaming, however, the difference here is that the person making the excuses is at least acknowledging that he/she is part of the problem of not succeeding or getting the task completed. Sometimes excuses are very clever and can fool many people, including yourself.
Attitude
How you feel about something is a big factor in your success. If you have a good attitude then you will try your best to develop these skills, even if it takes time. Some attitudes are negative and destructive, thus preventing you from taking risk, or trying. Your attitude impacts your motivation. A student can have a lot of ability and a poor attitude. The poor attitude will sabotage success. As well as a student with a strong, positive attitude and low ability can be very successful.
Know it all
A “know it all” is a person who doesn’t believe they need to do anything to succeed. He/she already knows it all. But, no one knows everything. There is always something else to learn, achieve, strive for, or improve on.
Quitting too soon when it gets difficult
Some students do fine until they come to something that seems to hard. They just quit instead of persevering and working through the problems. Once you get over that rough spot you can keeping going forward until you hit another rough spot in the road to learning. Many students are afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. Ask anyway. Somethings take extra practice to master.
