Greetings,
Last month a co-worker from my old school asked about my vacation plans for summer. Now that I am retired I am always on vacation, especially living here in Florida! But, I will never forget the joy that summer brings as the school year came to a close.

Summer is a time for us all to rejuvenate and to recharge our batteries for the upcoming year. My kids were swimmers and so I spent summers at the pool. I had a special spot under the pine trees where there was always a nice breeze and warm sun. I would read, exercise with daily swims, plan my guidance lessons, and listen to Dr Laura on the radio. Funny as it may seem, her radio show callers gave me insight into the struggles of parents and triggered ideas for topics for parenting classes.
Today there are many podcasts that can offer the same types of inspiration. Summer is a time to focus on yourself and catch up on interests, regardless of your passions. There are podcasts out there for you that I encourage to you check them out. If you find a great one please share with us in the comments section.
Summer is also a great time to explore children's books that you can use with your guidance lessons. A weekly trip to the children's section in the library to browse books might trigger new ideas. Also, I would check out biographies and memoirs to read and often found great examples for role models to share with students, such as Ben Carson's Gifted Hands and Jim Henson's biography for kids.
Lastly, it is an ideal time to explore this website and discover all the rich resources for you, such as exploring different topics for Groups, working with Individuals and their unique needs, as well as various topics for Guidance lessons, Organization skills, Social skills, etc.
Warmly,
Jeanette
